Description

Created entirely in Photoshop - no compositing, or photo manipulation - this was part of a freelance science fiction project... I needed to create several scenes from space looking down on alien worlds. ...And this one is my favorite.

For this scene I wanted to capture the vast splendor of space, while generating a sense of foreboding. My first thought was to show as much of the planet as possible and generate the mood through the use of color. However I opted to have only a small portion of the planet's surface illuminated to try and convey a sense that the planet may not be all that it seems, and that it could be hiding something. To further emphasize the mood I chose agitating colors for the nebular cloud in the background.

I've included a link to the large final piece below.

This is certainly cool but lavender doesn't strike me as apprehensive. The eclipse effect and the orange/red tones of the nebular cloud do look ominous. Still great effect!

This is fantastic... added to fav artworks.

Any chance we get to see the other pieces of this sci fi project?
